I created and coded everything visual for this. Since we wanted to really showcase this year's photos, I built a unique image gallery with both the thumbnail rollover expansion feature (inspired by Google Images) and image pop-up lightbox (a classic, clean UI) by combining, customizing and rewriting various open-source image galleries.
