I still haven't thought of a title. Maybe... "Nea Stopped"?

Make sure to pick up your September copy of Southwest Art Magazine, because I'm going to be featured as one of the "21 Artists under 31"! I'm sooooo stoked!

Catch y'all later!

Art Show-- A success! Also, a MAGAZINE INTERVIEW!

Current Mood: sushi-craving

Hey y'all! So I haven't updated in forever but the art show at Art on 5th rocked! I met so many fantastic viewers and collectors and the other artists were great.

In other news, Southwest Art Magazine is going to feature me in their Sept. issue as one of the 21 artists under 31 to watch! A writer is going to call me and interview me. I'm super-stoked!

So I've sold some portraits at Art on 5th and now I need to paint more. Calling all models! I'm going to paint a big 3-by-4-foot canvas of my sister Nea again. I took this gorgeous photo which, if painted ultra-promptly, could be one of the images in the magazine feature. Yeeah!

Sushi's calling.

Later y'all!

GO TO IT! My fashion-designer friend Jennie Lewis and I worked on her website for a while and it's now up. If you're UT-er, read about Jennie in today's Daily Texan. We did a short photoshoot of her adorable tote bags and finally got the site up and running (mostly!).

In other web design news, my class project group and I finished English teacher Trish Roberts-Miller's site. Click here to check it out!

In MORE design news, I got to touch up another cover for Brilliant Magazine. Yay!

Well I gotta jet to travel to the other folders in my laptop. Homework time.

Love y'all, blog-readers!

Janis - Complete!

Sunday, April 13
Current Mood: loungy Sunday

Hey friends!

School, my internship, and the art show are all nearing their deadline and thus requiring MORE AND MORE WORK. I'm sooo stressed! But right now I'm chilling at the computer formatting images and peripherally enjoying Rock of Love season finale. I finally completed Janis, one of many rockin' Austinites. I want to paint a couple more before the show... perhaps Kinky Friedman and... I dunno... Bob Schneider, Lance Armstrong, Owen Wilson, Matt McConaughey, Robert Rodriguez, Ann Richards, Lady Bird?

Well... here's Janis!

Janis Joplin Painting

I have to write a big paper for English so I gotta go. Later y'all!

Hey guys!

I quickly finished Bevo, the most beautiful face of Austin. I decided to make it more impressionistic than usual because big painterly strokes and texas scenes/ animals look swell together. Countless elementary school field trips to the Amon Carter taught me this. I also love liberal brushstrokes because of the retro aesthetic and artsy decorative appeal it adds to any house rooms. Like, THIS IS NOT A MASS-PRODUCED POSTER. It's sophistication. And that's no..... bull..... :(

Bevo Painting

My next painting is Janis Joplin, which is chronologically appropriate because she rocked the Bevo mascot as a fellow UT-er. The curly-haired hippie's first shows were at West Campus, believe it or not. I think I'll go a little impressionistic on this piece as well, as it would best capture her raspy grundge vibe. Also, I feel that the thick paint strokes would reflect her artsy nature.

Well I gotta work on some web design/ internship/ homework stuff. Dear espresso shots, I love you. Love, me.

Best,

Anna

Happy St. Patty's friends!

I finished painting Sandra Bullock, a beautiful fellow Austinite who owns a restaurant here and chills in her Lake Austin mansion. I documented my progress in this little clip:

I started painting my mascot Bevo! He is clearly the most handsome face of Austin (besides Lesley the tranny) so it'll be fun to capture his grace in acrylics.

In other news, I've been applying to Summer internships left and right. Wonder which one I'll get! Also in other news, My roomies and I roadtripped it east to New Orleans for Spring break. Total blast! If I get a paid internship this summer maybe we can do something like that again.

Well I'll talk to you lovely friends later!

Midterms! yikes.

On the bright side, two of my roomates and I interviewed Roland Swenson, the Founder-Director of South By Southwest music festival, for our final-round application for PBS documentary series Roadtrip Nation. It was sooo awesome! He barely does press but he was so open about his life and career! We're still crossing our fingers (hard) for the spot on Roadtrip Nation.

I'm currently adding graphic design work and photography to this site, and I'm going to be changing the look of this site as well. After 2 graphic design internships and a couple of web classes, I feel like this site needs improvement.

A painting show at Art on 5th in Austin is coming up in May... stay tuned! I want everyone to come.

My internship at Brilliant magazine is going really well! The coworkers are great and I have a couple of nice magazines to add to my portfolio.

I need to finish updating this site.

Later friends!

Current mood: productive

Hey guys! It's my first blog. It's also my first day of the Spring semester at UT, which thus far is pretty good (3 English classes for the win!). I finished my first day as the new design assistant at Brilliant magazine. The internship seems really amazing as far as portfolio and social opportunities go. I mean, my first day, I was given 4 gig of gala images to organize/ prepare for presentation to the boss and then I get to lay them out as a five-page section of the mag called RSVP. I was also invited to a party at Pangea (the most awesome, exclusive club in Austin) that Justin Timberlake might be attending. I'll do my best in psyching myself out of star-struck-ism should the pop prince attend. If I can do it for Fergie, I can do it for my man JT.

I spent most of Christmas break, besides my usual trip to Louisiana to kick it with Cajuns, finishing my Willie Nelson painting. I'm really excited about the result and think it might be my best painting yet. My process:

I shan't dwell on old paintings though-- I gotta work on Sandra Bullock!

For those who don't know, I'm trying to put together a series called "Faces of Austin." I'll assume that name isn't already taken. I'm looking at painting photorealistic faces of famous Austinites, maybe a few representative unknowns (students, drag-rat hippies, etc.), and Bevo.

I need to learn the html for accepting blog comments/ feedback. As for now, I'd be delighted to get email feedback at arbleker@yahoo.com.

Well I'm off to Rhetoric 309k, Topics in Writing. Whatever that means.

Love you all!
